Did anyone hear what was told about the king?

To everyone on Lancerussell.com who lives in Memphis or the surrounding midsouth area around Memphis. I heard that Lawler was called out by The Snowman on a.m 990 radio with Thadeus Matthews this past week. I was told by Nate The Rat Witlock who worked for Memphis Wrestling. I respect The King but I don't think he will respond to that challenge though it would be nice to see that rematch. But Mr. Russell I hope to see you back in Memphis again at a future Memphis Wrestling Show with Cory maclin and The king. Take Care lance.

The greatest Commentator has spoken

I saw memphis wrestling this morning and Lance it was a pleasure to hear from you again on wrestling like the good old days again. I see that you are 82 years younger again and it is a blessing that you are in great health Lance.

Great to hear from you Lance!

My number one and the greatest commentator that ever held a mike in wrestling history has spoken. Its great to hear that you are doing great lance and I would love to see Corey Maclin bring back some old legends to just to stop by for a minute. Legends like Austin Idol, Terry Funk, Hulk Hogan,Ric Flair, The Snowman and others that came through Memphis. The best feud that Lawler ever had in Memphis Wrestling history that I would love to see again is when the 1990 fall out feud between Lawler and The Snowman over the unified world title. That is the fued that Lawler himself would never show on opening the vault or even talk about but instead he talks about Terry Funk being one of his most hated rival matches besides matches with Bill Dundee or anybody else he wrestled. The Snowman Match and fued is one of the unrated and hidden fueds that people need and want to see and acknowledge again. Lance tell corey to give The Snowman a call and have him and The king to start a rematch story line between the two because when I talked to The Snowman, I saw that there is some lies that are out there on The Snowman about how he sold the belt to a drug dealer and pawned it. Lawler told me that himself a few years ago that The snowman had done those things with the belt and told lies to other organazations that he did such negative things like that with the unified belt. The Snowman told me that he would love to rematch Lawler to settle the differences and he is writing a book that is about to come out soon about his life in wrestling, the real truth about the belt and fued with him and lawler and his life in the ministry that he is doing now with his own church over in West Memphis. In My opinion I truly think that this match will sell out any place they choose to have it at Lance. Austin Idol will be great coming back to Challenge The king also I think or any new comers to but that's my thoughts of the new Memphis Wrestling Lance. Its a blessing to see that you are doing great Lance and I caint wait to hear you on channel 50 on august 9th to talk to all of us like you use to.

A Message From Lance

Yello' again everybody. Boy it's been much too long since I last was with you, sorry for the absence. Believe me you have been in my mind and I've been reading the Forum regularly. I'm almost sorry to say that you seem to be getting along fine without me.

I wanted to let you know that I got a phone call, the other day, from Memphis Wrestling Promoter Corey Maclin. Cory called to tell me about the new home for Memphis Wrestling on Memphis' channel 50,"ion tv". And, while you know that I haven't been in Memphis for some time and haven't had the opportunity to watch channel 50, I'm happy for Corey and the fans that wrestling is back on the air. And the good news is that it returns at its classic time slot of 11:00AM Saturday mornings.

I'm sure that Corey didn't take the time to tell me all of his plans but, from what he did say, it sounds like he has some great changes in mind for the new Memphis promotion. Most exciting of which, is the news that Memphis Wrestling fans can expect to see some talent new to Memphis but not new to the ring. In addition, Corey is planning to promote live house shows in the Memphis mid-south area. Let's hope that this news means that we can expect some good days for a great Memphis tradition.

One other thing that I can tell you is that I've agreed to join Corey and Jerry "The King" Lawler in a phone interview that will air Saturday August the 9th . I'm looking forward to talking with them about the new promotion and I certainly appreciate Corey making it possible for me to say that I've been on every television station that Memphis Wrestling has been on since its inception.

If you have any questions about the new Memphis
Wrestling promotion ask them here and I'll do my best to get answers for you. I am planning on making a live appearance on the new show just as soon as circumstances allow me to travel back to Memphis.

Join with me in wishing Corey and all those associated with the new show good luck and best wishes in providing another era of legendary Memphis Wrestling.

Memphis Arena Programs Wanted

Hello all,
I'm looking for old Memphis Wrestling Programs that were sold at the Monday night shows. They were 4-6 pages long and had that nights card listed in them. I'm looking for almost all of them, as long as they are for the Memphis card (not the surrounding territory).

Thanks,
Mark James

Hey lance I talked to this wrestling legend.

Dear Lance I forgot to mention that I ran into a legend who I did thought to have never seen again since the fall out between him and Jerry lawler in 1990, The Snowman. The Snowman told me that he has a book that is about to come out about his life in wrestling, in the ministry that he is in now and the true story about what real went down between him and lawler over the unified belt. I thought that he had sold it to a drug dealer myself as it was told to me by lawler when I asked him about that a few years ago and i see now that it is hard to believe that this man with such a great Godly spirit would do something like that. The Snowman told me that he is now a pastor at his church in west memphis arkansas and he would like to get in touch with you lance to say hello and wish you another 81 years of great health as The lord Jesus continues to bless you and your family with great blessings. So lance its great to see that I can got a chance to speak to one of the Memphis Wrestling legends like The Snowman because I have sat down and ate with alot of them back in the days because they used my cousins ring to wrestle in at the colesium (Buddy Wayne) so lance take care and best wishes to you and the family lance.

What should we expect Aug 9th

What should we expect to see when we turn the TV to My Network 50 at 11 am on saturday August 9th. Will it be a live show or will it be taped from arena events. Do we still see the same ole Memphis talent or will there be a different roster of talent?

Tupelo Concession Stand Match

Lance, this probably had to be one of the most incredible things ever to occur in Memphis wrestling. I was wondering if any of the wrestler's came close to getting hurt. You could see them slipping all over.

I went to school with your son at Colonial back in the day too. When I was in college, since my first name is Jimmy and Jimmy Valient was hot at the time in Memphis, I was given the nickname Handsome by my frat brothers. They all said it like you did, hand-SOME Jimmy. It was great.

Mr. Lance.. Jerry Jarrett 'eye' angle..

Mr. Lance,
while most fans would say the Lawler-Kaufman angle was the most talked about angle in Memphis history, I feel the angle with Jerry/Jeff Jarrett and Buddy Landell/Bill Dundee ['85-'86?] was played out great also..
if you ever have a chance, would really enjoy your memories of this angle; Lawler's return for the angle; and how you did your part in pushing the angle..
thanks!

Mr. Lance.. booking/storyline ??

Mr Lance,
hope all is going great down South...
was wondering if you had any input as to upcoming booking and/or storylines which you felt would draw $$..
also, wondered if you were briefed as to upcoming angles/mic time in order to allow you to build up the various wrestlers with your commentary..
thanks in advance!

Remembering

Hello Mr. Russell

Thank for so many memory, i use to watch you and Dave Brown from about 1969 to 1972 when i live in Memphis area before heading north

I met Jerry Lawler when he was a D.J. for KWAM-FM 101 (they called it K-Wam FM 101) was a country station at the time run by Eddie Bond
in fact the first time i saw Lawler on tv was not on WHBQ-TV wrestling, but on Eddie WHBQ-TV show at the time, Jerry was so shy that when Eddie ask if he wanted to say hi to the people at home, he just wave instead of talking, now days he won't shut up lol

Funny thing was, Eddie fired Jerry from K-wam for playing a rock and roll record from the mid-60's on a country station, of all song, it would have to be "Memphis" by Johnny Rivers wouldn't it lol

Jerry was not yet a pro wrestlers, but being trained at the time

why Eddie nickname Jerry "Birdleg" Lawler back then i don't know, unless it was because he had big legs and Eddie thought it would be funny to call him Birdleg!?

i will be checking in from time to time, thank for all the memory. you've done a great job all those years Lance
